Economics provides models and empirical methods for studying the behavior of individuals, families, businesses, organizations and the role of government in all facets of life.

All economics majors at UVa complete a foundational sequence of courses in microeconomics, macroeconomics, and econometrics. 

UVa students with degrees in economics are in high demand in the private, public, and not-for-profit sectors. 

The Department of Economics organizes research loosely based on the eight (8) regularly scheduled workshops. Faculty are also grouped according to who regularly participates in these workshops.
