Banking Internship with Office of the Comptroller of the Currency

The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) is seeking a Financial Intern who has an interest in pursuing a career in the banking field.  The OCC supervises the integrity of our national banks and thrifts, including the majority of the largest banks in the United States. Our culture strives to promote creative and innovative contributions by people in all positions and values and encourages diversity.
Financial Interns gain paid, real life work experience by performing challenging, while interesting assignments, designed to prepare them for careers as National Bank Examiners. Financial interns will participate in on-site bank examinations through our Midsize/Community Bank line of business, supporting the supervision of national community banks. Assignments cover all areas of banking, including examining loans, interest rate risk, capital, liquidity, consumer protection programs, and compliance with banking laws and regulations.
Financial Interns, who perform satisfactorily and complete the internship requirement with the OCC prior to, or concurrent with completion of their academic requirements, may be converted to permanent employment with the OCC. 
Candidates applying for the Financial Internship must have a graduation date during or between the Fall-term of 2022 and the Spring-term of 2024. Financial Interns will work with their supervisor to complete requirements for the internship program, generally while on break from school. Interested students may also gain academic credit for participation in the OCC Financial Internship Program, please contact your academic advisor for further information. Overnight travel may be required; interns may travel to banks across the region and will be responsible for providing their own transportation to these work locations. The OCC will provide reimbursement for mileage and associated travel costs.
Hiring Location
This position is based at the Roanoke, VA field office. If the intern completes the requirements of the internship and is converted to a full-time employee, she or he will continue to be assigned to the Roanoke, VA field office.
Financial Intern Major Duties and Responsibilities
·        Assist or conduct bank examinations under the supervision and guidance of experienced national bank examiners.
·        Work with a team to gather, organize, and analyze bank data.
·        Assess compliance with banking laws & regulations.
·        Prepare written conclusion/recommendation reports and memos, which are  shared with bank executives and senior OCC examiners.
·        Participate in on-the-job training in bank supervision, fundamentals of bank accounting, banking systems and controls, computer applications, and banking law.

*4th years may apply if they will be enrolled in a grad program in the fall of 2022.
