Summary
This position is located in the Executive Office of the President(EOP), Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), Office of International Relations and Supply Reduction (IRSR). ONDCP's mission is to develop and implement evidence-based public health and public safety policies that reduce drug use and its consequences.

Duties
As a POLICY ASSISTANT, GS-0303-9, your typical work assignments may include the following under supervision:Serves as the component's point of contact for providing guidance and assistance concerning the efficient and effective fulfillment of the administrative requirements of a wide variety of work assignments, originated within the component or elsewhere in ONDCP. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of ONDCP administrative practices and procedures.
Coordinates the work of staff to ensure adherence to correct formats, proper use of relevant computer systems applications, timely development of products, and effective fulfillment of other aspects of administrative support. Monitors work in progress and informs leadership and staff of technical/administrative problems as they develop and either takes corrective action independently or develops proposed solutions.
Exercises control over the Assistant Director's work calendar, accepts or declines invitations, or arranges for representation by an appropriate staff member. Arranges meetings with high-level government officials, and coordinates with staff to ensure the Assistant Director is fully briefed by appropriate staff before scheduled meetings.
Makes travel and lodging arrangements for Assistant Director and other component staff, as requested. Creates travel authorizations and processes travel vouchers. Sets itineraries for the Assistant Director's travel, notifies officials, and prepares necessary documents
Receives telephone calls and visitors and refers inquiries, and/or sensitive correspondence to appropriate staff members. Assures that responses convey the views and concerns of the Assistant Director. Obtains background information for the Assistant Director. Organizes and maintains correspondence files and assembles and summarizes information.
Assists component staff with policy related tasks as requested and under their supervision. Examples of assistance may include: reading, reviewing, researching, analyzing, and summarizes staff papers, official reports and documents to identify significant items and/or anticipate problems.
Assists in drafting responses to a wide variety of inquiries from Congress, State and local policy makers, and the public in a timely, responsive and accurate fashion.
Reviews outgoing correspondence for format, typographical accuracy, conformance with procedural instructions and determines all necessary background materials are attached. Informs the writer of any problems encountered. Maintains records of incoming and outgoing correspondence and action documents via IT system and follows up on work in process to ensure timely action and responses to requests. Incumbent serves as direct link to the Executive Secretary and ensures timely submission of correspondence.
Monitors all requirements for read-aheads due to the Assistant Director. Tasks appropriate component staff to ensure timely delivery to principals. Reviews and receives read-aheads and/or background materials, and compiles/completes electronic daily book for Assistant Director.
Using various software applications, maintains databases, spreadsheets and other tracking and control documents, keeping them updated regularly and uses them to inform component staff on statuses of component action items. Incumbent actively manages component's IT collaboration site (i.e. SharePoint), ensuring accurate organization and filing of completed work to preserve corporate knowledge and meet Presidential records requirements.
