On April 13th NFL player, Chris Long stopped by to talk to students in ECON 4430: Environmental Economics about his foundation’s work bringing water wells to East Africa
Around a billion people around the world do not have access to safe drinking water. Women and young children walk long distances to access and collect water in many parts of rural Tanzania. Chris Long talked to students in ECON 4430 taught by Professor Sheetal Sekhri highlighting this ordeal faced by a swathe of rural population world- wide. He also discussed the work done by his organization Waterboys (https://waterboys.org/) in improving water access in Tanzania and shared with the students his journey in setting up a non-profit. Students discussed social entrepreneurship as a means to address water needs of millions of people around the globe. Brian Richter from Nature Conservancy, who has authored the book Chasing Water: A Guide for Moving from Scarcity to Sustainability joined Long in raising awareness about water access issues emerging globally.
