This summer internship, beginning in June 2017, is a paid opportunity for undergraduate students in their junior year, senior year, or recent college graduates from a social science discipline with an interest in public policy and social justice issues.
This internship pays an hourly rate of $11.50, and applicants must be willing to commit to a minimum number of hours per week (no less than 35 hours per week, during regular business hours), with some flexibility around an academic course schedule. The internship will last approximately 10 weeks.
Responsibilities will include supporting the director of the Race, Place, and Economic Mobility project on daily and long-term projects. Interns will be responsible for assisting the director with research such as data collection, editing, and general research support. Interns will be tasked with researching, drafting, editing, and posting blog posts for the project. Interns will assist the director with compiling PowerPoint presentations for research and fundraising purposes.
The intern will have the opportunity to attend internal meetings, local think tank events, professional development workshops, and public Brookings events as well as participate on Brookings sports teams and network with other interns throughout the Institution.
Undergraduate students (who have completed their sophomore year) working towards a social science degree are encouraged to apply. Our most successful interns have strong writing, analytic, and internet-based research skills. Interns must have a demonstrated interest in public policy and social justice issues either in their coursework or past intern experiences. Strong PowerPoint skills are required. Strong written and oral communication skills are also required.
Successful completion of a background investigation is required for interning at Brookings.
