INTERN, DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION RESEARCH AND DATA ANALYSIS

The Policy and Program Studies Service (PPSS) at the U.S. Department of Education is looking for intern candidates with an interest in federal education policy and strong analytical and writing skills to intern with us this summer. The deadline to apply is March 15.

The PPSS team analyzes education research and data to inform policy and program decisions across the Department, implements evaluations of Department programs, provides guidance on the use of evidence, and enhances open data opportunities. Specifically, we are responsible for (1) providing analytic support and research expertise to senior staff; (2) developing issue briefs and technical papers and conducting quick turn-around analyses; (3) improving the accessibility and use of ED data through initiatives such as InformED and College Scorecard; (4) reviewing evidence to inform options for policy proposals and program design; and (5) designing, conducting, and reporting results from evaluations of ED programs.

Typical intern duties include:

  • Assisting PPSS staff in locating, summarizing, and synthesizing evidence on a given topic

  • Conducting data analysis and summarizing data

  • Assisting PPSS staff in developing and completing reports on key topics of interest to the Administration

  • Checking data and research citations in high-profile speeches and other communications from the Secretary’s office

Intern qualifications include:

  • Strong research, data analysis, oral communication, organization, and writing skills

  • Able to work on a team, in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple projects

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Available to work at our office in Washington, DC

  • Interest in federal education policy
