Research Assistant
We are looking for highly-skilled and motivated individuals to work as full-time research assistants (RAs) with
economics faculty at the University of Virginia. RAs will collaborate with faculty on a range of projects in
applied microeconomics, including criminal justice, international development, health, education, and
environmental policy. This is an ideal position for those interested in preparing for a Ph.D. in economics or
public policy.
The ideal candidate will have
• a bachelor’s degree in economics, public policy, political science, statistics, or computer science
• strong programming skills
• strong written and oral communication skills
• the ability to work independently to solve problems
• a long-term interest in pursuing analytic work in economics and public policy
Most programming work will be done in Stata. Candidates with demonstrated programming experience in
other languages and a willingness to learn Stata are welcome to apply. Experience with Matlab, Python, R,
GIS, and Git is beneOicial but not required.
The anticipated salary range is $43,000-$48,000 plus standard beneOits. Our preferred start date is June 1,
2017, but there is some Olexibility if candidates need to start later in the summer. Each position will last for at
least one year. We plan to hire one or more candidates and will do our best to match candidates to professors
based on research interests.
