Operations Manager
Full-time FLSA exempt salaried July 2018.
Summary
The Operations Manager oversees all functions associated with the safe and efficient procurement, handling, sales, and delivery of local food at Local Food Hub. This includes managing distribution staff, creating and implementing systems and protocols, and overseeing day-to-day logistics. The Operations Manager is expected to understand and fill in for all warehouse and distribution tasks as needed. Warehouse and produce experience and strong management skills are required for this position.
Relationships
The Operations Manager works closely with the entire distribution team and all senior management of Local Food Hub, and is responsible for ensuring teamwork and a positive work environment.
Responsibilities
- Oversee distribution staff, including:
- Hiring warehouse staff
- Ensuring thorough training according to established SOPs
- Overseeing weekly scheduling for drivers and warehouse employees
- Oversee and troubleshoot warehouse functioning
- Ensure accurate receiving of product
- With Product Manager, oversee inventory management, including conducting regular inventory counts and following proper labeling and traceback protocol
- Develop and implement efficient delivery routes
- Ensure compliance with all food safety and transportation safety protocols
- Work with distribution team and management on systems development, budgeting, and long-term planning
- Assist with future infrastructure improvements
- Fill for all warehouse and delivery roles as needed
Required Proficiencies
- Mastery of concepts related to fresh produce, such as perishability, safe food storage and rotation, grading, packing, and quality consistent with Local Food Hub and USDA specifications
- Strong communications skills and experience in managing and motivating staff
- Ability to manage and troubleshoot problems with warehouse infrastructure and operations
- Warehouse experience including but not limited to driving large delivery vehicles,
operating forklifts and pallet jacks, and following FIFO inventory management
- Ability to work long hours, particularly during the busy season
- Ability to lift 50 lbs
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs and Quickbooks
- Ability to multi-task and work under pressure
